How is Breast Implant Surgery Done?
When undergoing breast implant surgery at The Plus, we take several factors into consideration in order to personalize your treatment to obtain the desired results. Implant type and placement, and the incision method for inserting the implants are all discussed and decided with the doctor to maximize efficacy and results
Implant Placement
Dual Plane
A method in which implants are placed partially below the pectoral muscles.
This is currently the most commonly performed method, as it creates a natural teardrop-shaped breast and has the advantage of preventing double-line formation. This method also minimizes the risks of a single-pocket placement.
As this method involves making an incision in the muscle, it has a relatively longer recovery period, but often yields better results.
Subglandular
A method in which the implants are placed above the muscle and below the breast soft tissue.
This method allows for the expansion of the deflated skin envelope and decreases the incidence of the “double bubble” deformity. This method is only suitable for patients with sufficient glandular tissue, as the implant may be visible in those with thin skin.
Because there is no incision into the muscle, the surgery is relatively shorter and less likely to cause pain, thus having the advantage of a shorter recovery period.
Submuscular
A method in which the implants are placed underneath the pectoral muscles.
This method allows greater tissue coverage of the implant, a more natural appearance and feel, less palpability of the implant, and potentially less risk of capsular contracture.
This method is preferred by people who are slim and who have less subcutaneous breast tissue, as it is effective in dramatically enlarging small breasts while creating a natural appearance.

Incision Method
Transaxillary
(Armpit incision)
An approximately 3-4cm incision is made in the natural folds of the armpit. This approach leaves no scars on the breast.
Peri-Areolar
(Areola edge incision)
The incision is made along the lower border of the areola, where the darker skin of the areola meets the lighter skin of the breast.
Inframammary
(Under breast incision)
The incision is placed along the crease under the breast and leaves discreet scarring. Surgeons have more visibility, precision, and control with this incision.
