Definition of Closed Surgery
Closed surgery is a simple method suitable for patients who do not want skin incisions on the nasal column, or those who only want to raise the nasal bridge without nasal tip surgery. Although it is an accessible method, it has several disadvantages. For instance, it can be challenging to secure a clear view during surgery, which can increase the risk of tissue damage due to excessive manipulation or result in unwanted deformations. Therefore, this method is more beneficial for surgeons proficient in open surgery.
Purpose of Closed Surgery
Closed surgery is primarily used for raising the nasal bridge, correcting a hooked nose, and some nasal tip corrections.
Pros and Cons of Closed Surgery
Pros: No visible scars, less swelling, faster recovery.
Cons: Difficulty in securing a view during surgery can lead to tissue damage or unwanted deformations.
Method of Closed Surgery
Definition of Open Surgery
Open surgery involves skin incisions on the nasal column and the cutting of the support ligaments of the nasal tip. Therefore, it is necessary to reinforce the support of the nasal tip for long-term satisfactory results.
Pros and Cons of Open Surgery
Pros: The structure of the nose tip can be fully exposed, allowing for visual confirmation and precise surgery such as adjusting the position and shape of the nose structure, and grafting cartilage and implants.
Cons: The support of the nose tip decreases.
Purpose of Open Surgery
Open surgery is performed when the fundamental structure of the nose needs to be changed, such as in cases of asymmetrical nose tip, crooked nose, saddle nose, and cleft lip nose deformity.
