What is Chin Surgery?
Chin surgery, also called ‘genioplasty’, is the reshaping of the chin by repositioning and T-osteotomy (removing a part of the chin bone and rejoining the two sides of the jaw). Chin surgery, also called ‘genioplasty’, is the reshaping of only the chin, achieved by repositioning and sometimes removing a section of the chin bone. It is for people who want to change the profile of their chin, either reducing an overly protruding chin bone or strengthening the profile of a weak chin. The overall result creates facial harmony, creating a more balanced overall appearance.
V-Line surgery is a combination procedure including both genioplasty (chin surgery) and square jaw reduction. The overall effect creates a streamlined, natural ‘V-line’ of the face. This combination surgery is popular with those who want to soften a square or broad jawline, enhance facial harmony, and create a more delicate, youthful appearance.
How is Chin Surgery Done?
The surgeon carefully reshapes or repositions the chin bone by cutting and moving it to achieve better facial balance. The bone can be advanced, set back, lengthened, or shortened depending on the desired correction, and it is secured with small plates and screws.
‘Mini V’ – Specialist Sliding Genioplasty at THE PLUS
In a standard sliding genioplasty, the front portion of the chin bone is carefully cut and repositioned to improve the overall chin contour. However, only repositioning the chin bone without considering the surrounding mandibular can result in a ‘step–off’, or uneven transition between the chin and jawline.
Here at The Plus, we offer a specialised form of sliding genioplasty that we have named ‘Mini V surgery’. Combining a sliding genioplasty and surrounding mandibular reduction, our Mini V surgery goes one step further than the standard sliding genioplasty, refining the adjacent jawbone to create a smoother, more balanced and natural result.
Although named the Mini V, this chin surgery is not a full V-line surgery and does not treat the entire jawline, so we recommend it for anyone seeking a natural-looking, refined chin without the full V-shape facial contour.
