Nasal Bridge

What is Nasal Bridge Width Revision Surgery?

Nasal Bridge Width Revision Surgery is required when, after a certain period following a previous nose surgery where implants or autologous tissues were inserted into the nasal bridge, the width of the nasal bridge becomes too wide or narrow. Post-surgery, the nasal bridge may appear wide and high due to swelling, but it takes shape as the swelling subsides after several months. However, if the nasal bridge remains too wide or appears too narrow after the swelling has subsided, a correction may be necessary.

Methods of Nasal Bridge Width Revision Surgery

1. In the Case of a Wide Nasal Bridge

If an implant or autologous tissue has been inserted into the nasal bridge, correction is made by replacing the implant or narrowing the width of the autologous tissue. However, if no implant has been inserted into the nasal bridge, osteotomy may be needed if the nasal bone is wide, or skin thinning may be needed if the skin is thick.

2. In the Case of a Narrow Nasal Bridge

If an implant or autologous tissue has been inserted into the nasal bridge, correction is made by replacing the implant or widening the width of the autologous tissue. However, if no implant has been inserted into the nasal bridge, lateral movement of the nasal bone may be needed through osteotomy if the previous nasal bone osteotomy was excessive. Also, correction can be made through the insertion of an implant or autologous tissue, or simply through fat grafting.

Cases Requiring Nasal Bridge Revision Surgery

Case 1: Narrow Implant From previous Surgery

This case involved a narrow implant used in a previous nose surgery. It was replaced with a dermal fat graft through a revision surgery to widen the nasal bridge.

Case 2: Osteotomy Not Performed for a Wide Nasal Bone

Although no implant was used in this previous nose surgery, the nasal bridge looked wide because an osteotomy was not performed on the wide nasal bone. In the revision surgery, the tip of the nose was raised and the osteotomy was performed to narrow the width of the nasal bridge.

Case 3: Osteotomy in the Case of a Wide Nasal Bone

If an implant is used without correcting the wide nasal bone, the nasal bridge line does not look natural from the front. Furthermore, the outer line of the nasal bridge also looks unnatural. In such cases, you need to move the nasal bone inward using an appropriate osteotomy.
